Beginning September 18 the Physio™ and Physio 360™ will be available in 1.60 index in Clear, Transitions Gray and Brown. Add range is 0.75-3.50, and 4.00. Essilor will be introducing a new and improved 1.60 material, which it says is up to 30% thinner than a standard plastic lens and is easy to handle.

SINGLE VISION 1.60 IN TRANSITIONS

Also on September 18, Essilor will launch a single vision product in the new 1.60 material which will be available in Clear
and in Transitions Gray and Brown. This will be the first time any company has a product in S.V. 1.60 Transitions.

FREEDOM 5 IS NOW FREEDOM ID

Xcel is in the process of phasing out the Freedom 5 PAL in glass. Replacing it is the Freedom ID. What is important to note about this is that the Freedom 5 was a 2 drop, meaning 2mm from the fitting cross to the 180 datum line. However, the new Freedom ID is a 4 drop. Take this into consideration when measuring the fitting height and also when thinking about replacing only one lens. The minimum fitting height is 17mm, and the lens is available in many colors including Clear glass, PGX, PBX, Thin & Dark , Autumn Gold, Polarized Gray 1 & 3, Polarized Brown 1 & 3, Polarized Autumn Gold, and Polarized Photochromic Gray and Brown. Rx range is from –4.00 to +5.00 with adds of .75-3.50.

GT2 BY ZEISS

Carl Zeiss Vision has launched a new PAL called GT2 (Gradal Top 2). Zeiss lists key features and benefits including: optimal corridor length, more expansive near zone, low 17mm fitting height, and a more optimally designed base curve series. This lens is available in Clear 1.50 CR-39, 1.5 Transitions Gray and Brown, 1.59 polycarbonate, 1.59 Transitions Gray and Brown, 1.67 index clear, and 1.67 Transitions Gray and Brown. Rx range is –16.00 (in 1.67) to +6.00 with adds of 1.00-3.00 and to 3.50 in CR-39 Clear.

SMALLFIT OVATION

For those of you who use the Ovation by Essilor there is good news. Now the Ovation design is available in a short corridor PAL called Smallfit™. Smallfit has a minimum fitting height of 14 compared to Ovation’s 17mm minimum fitting height which Essilor says equates to a 10-15% increase in frame options for PAL wearers. Smallfit is available in Airwear polycarbonate in Clear and Transitions Gray and Brown. Add range is .75-3.00.

1.67 ST-28 WITH CRIZAL

Essilor is introducing a ST28 in 1.67 but only with Crizal, Crizal Alize’ or Crizal Alize’ with Clear Guard. The power range is +1.00 to –15.00, up to –4.00 cylinder with an add power of +1.00 to +3.00. There are still more than 35 million patients currently wearing lined multifocals, so here is a good opportunity for those high myopes to have a thinner, flatter lens with Crizal no-glare.

BY THE NUMBERS

Every month we send PAL usage reports to most of the lens vendors, and we track for ourselves Dr.’s redo, non-adapts, and scratch warranty redo. For the first seven months of this year the averages for all our accounts for these three categories are: 1.8% Dr’s redo; 1.6% non-adapt; and 1.5% scratch warranty for a total of 4.9% average for an account. This means that many of you are doing a very good job, but there are some accounts that are tracking over double and triple the average, and some are over 20% and more. If you would like to know how you are doing call Joe Duffy or Advance and ask for your numbers. Fewer redos result in more profit for you.
