New Lens Standard Approved

ANSI Z80.1 is now officially known as ANSI Z80.1-2005. The newest revision of Z80.1 was approved by ANSI with an effective date of December 19,2005. The Optical Laboratories Association (OLA) Technical Director, Dan Torgersen is preparing a newsletter with an analysis of Z80.1-2005. His report describes the new specifications of Z80.1.2005 including the expected reductions in cylinder axis error and in refractive power error in progressive lenses. When this report is available to us we will post it on this site to make it avalable to you. I hope to have the entire Standard available soon on the web site for your reference.

The End of Ormex?

Essilor has announced it is discontinuing some hardcoat products in its Ormex 1.56 mid-index line as of March 27th.
These products are:
Ormex single vision semi finished
Ormex aspheric st28
Ormex Adaptar
Ormex Adaptar Transitions III
Ormex Varilux Comfort
Ormex Essilor Natural

As the 1.60 and 1.67 index become available in more product we are processing fewer mid-index products. So this announcements by Essilor is not surprising and we expect to see more mid-index product being discontinued.
