My Cataract Surgery

A couple of months ago I wrote of my need to have my right natural lens replaced as a result of a cataract. At that time I was researching whether or not to go into an IOL with a built in reading or intermediate correction as well as in distance. On July 12th I had my surgery and I am thrilled with the results. I decided on the monofocal lens because there seemed to be too many issues with the other choices. Now, I am awaiting the time to do the left eye, which should be in about one month. To deal with anisometropia I am wearing a contact lens in my left eye. While I've never worn a contact lens before this temporary solution seems to be working out very well. For intermediate and near vision I have made up single vision "readers" but am in the process of making up a Shamir Office which will give me both the reading and intermediate vision. Stay tuned.

Smallfit by Essilor- a short corridor Ovation

Beginning July 17th Advance Optical has been offering the new Essilor Smallfit. This is built on the Ovation design and will address short corridor frames. Essilor says that "the Smallfit lens design is optimized for the best transition across all visual fields, leading to greater wearer comfort and viewing utility. A minimum fitting height of 14mm, as compared to Ovation's 17mm minimum fitting height, equates to a 10-15% increase in frame options for PAL wearers."
The Smallfit is available in Airwear polycarbonate only in clear, Transitions Gray, and Transitions Brown. Add power range is 0.75-3.00.

Top Progressive Lens Sales for June

VX Physio continues to move up on our list of our top selling PALs. This month VX Physio moved to third place from the fifth slot in May. VX Physio 360 also continues to make progress moving to the #7 place from 9th place in May. Most startling about the Physio and Physio 360 are the few non-adapts we are seeing. However, we are experiencing more Drs. redos on the Physio. So, it seems that once the measurements and Rx are correct then the patient is good to go. Here is our list of top ten Progressives.
1) VX Comfort
2) VX Panamic
3) VX Physio
4) VX Ellipse
5) Piccolo
6) Image
7) VX Physio 360
8) Genesis
9) VIP
10) Ovation
