Essilor Launches Integrated AR Technology for Sun Lenses

Essilor Launches Integrated AR Technology for Sun Lenses

BANFF, Canada--Essilor of America is launching an integrated anti-reflective (AR) technology specifically designed to complement sunwear. The technology, which Essilor unveiled last week at its national sales meeting here, will be introduced in a new product known Crizal Sun that will be part of Essilor's family of Crizal AR lenses.

According to Essilor, Crizal Sun lenses offer the same scratch protection and ease of cleaning on both sides of the lens as Crizal Alizé. Specialized integrated technology reduces backside glare without the common front side color changes, keeping the original color and look of the lens. Crizal Sun is also infused into the lens, so it will not wear or peel off over time.

Essilor will offer Crizal Sun lenses in both polycarbonate and high-index plastic. The lenses are comparable to lenses with Crizal Alizé in both performance and price and come with Essilor's proprietary Pad Control System.

"We saw a real need for this product in the market. Currently, there is no ideal coating for sunwear in the industry," said Carl Bracy, vice president of marketing for Essilor of America. "The goal with AR coatings is to let as much light in as possible. With polarized lenses you are aiming to keep the light out. Crizal Sun optimizes vision through any sun lens, making it the ideal AR choice for polarized or tinted lenses."

Essilor to Launch PAL Technology Optimized for Specific Eye Shapes

Essilor is introducing two new progressive lenses to the Essilor PAL family: Accolade and Accolade Freedom. These lenses join Ovation, SmallFit, Natural and Adaptar as part of the non-Varilux Essilor PAL offerings. These PALs are available to ECPs when the premium Varilux brand is not an option. Accolade and Accolade Freedom lenses allow patients to see better, faster. They will be especially valuable for ECPs where fast adaptation and price are the main concerns.

Accolade will be available to Eye Care Professionals beginning Friday, February 9th.

Essilor offers Accolade in two versions:
- Accolade lenses utilize HARMONIX, the latest patented technology from Essilor. Harmonix integrates eye shape (the length of the eye) into an individual progressive lens design. The result is unparalleled acuity:
- In clinical wearer tests, Accolade was preferred 3 to 1 in overall peripheral and dynamic vision over Ovation lenses
- 9 out of 10 patients adapt immediately to Accolade
- Minimum Fitting Height of 17 mm
- Available in traditional surfacing

- Accolade Freedom lenses combine Harmonix with the added dimension of FrameOptimization Technology. Through FrameOptimization, the backside design is optimized using digital surfacing based on frame dimensions, fittings and Rx, so patients gain the freedom to choose the frames they want with a customized lens design.
- No additional measurements are required (the usual A, B, PD and Seg. Height)
- Minimum Fitting Height as low as 15 mm
- Accolade Freedom lenses includes your choice of Crizal anti-reflective Technology
- These lenses can be ordered as full jobs through your Essilor Processing Center

Accolade and Accolade Freedom are available in the following materials:
- Thin&Lite 1.67 Clear and Transitions® V (Gray and Brown), Rx range -12.00 D to +8.00 D
- Airwear Clear and Transitions V (Gray and Brown), Rx range -10.00 D to +6.00 D
- 1.5 Plastic Clear and Transitions (Gray and Brown), Rx range -9.00 D to +6.00 D
- Add: +0.75 to 3.50
- All Materials up to -4.00 D cylinder
- Other Materials will be introduced throughout the year

New VSP Rules Regarding 1.74 Index

Single Vision, Panamic,Physio and Physio 360 are now available in 1.74 index and come automatically with Crizal Alize' with Clear Guard. Only the Physio 360 product is covered and reimbursed through VSP. S.V., Panamic and Physio in 1.74 have to be ordered as private invoice and then reimbursed by VSP. VSP refers to this as a Special Lens Procedure. Here is what they say on their web site about this proceedure.

"Explanation of Special Lenses Procedure

As new products are introduced, some are not available through the VSP options system and require special processing. While certain products are not reimbursable through VSP, VSP may approve selected products for a special lens reimbursement. These products are ordered on a private basis and require post authorization. VSP will pay an allowance toward the cost of these lenses according to the patient's prescription.

The doctor will order the product on your private invoice. If the doctor sends the Post Authorization Request Form and/or invoice form to your laboratory, return it promptly to the doctor; do not write any information on the invoice form. Bill the doctor according to your private prices. The doctor will pay your laboratory invoice and charge the patient the difference between the allowance and the usual and customary charges for the lenses.

Special Lenses Procedure on Eyefinity

Special lenses that require post authorization can be ordered through Eyefinity:

The provider will select the vision type (single vision, bifocal, etc.) and the material type (plastic, glass, etc.) in the pull-down menu.
If a lens is not listed in the pull-down menu, the provider will select "Other (Indicate Lens Not Listed) - Other" as the lens choice.
The provider will then enter the lens product name in the Lens Not Listed box and will also list the product in the Lab Special Instructions box and will type "private invoice must be used".
The provider will type "Spcl Lens-Post Auth-$xxx.xx" (cost of the lenses from your private invoice) and will list the product in Box 19 on the CMS-1500 screen.
Bill the doctor on your private invoice. The provider will submit a Post Authorization, a copy of the patient's claim form and your private invoice to VSP for reimbursement.

For the most current lens information and to determine if a product is an approved special lens, please check the Product Index in the On-Line Reference Manual. If a particular lens is not listed in the On-Line Reference Manual, call (916) 851-4900 for additional information."
